Speed Skiing World Championships in Vars, France, 22 January 2009
After a thrilling qualification with a selection of the best racers in the field, on Thursday Jan. 22nd the Finals took place. Weather was perfect and cold, the racers in best shape.
The racers, qualified for the finals, had to race on a slightly shortenend course. Because due to the heavy snow falls in the previous days it was not possible to get a good preperation done within the very steep beginning of the track. A new woldrecord, currently held by Simone Origone with 251 km/h, was out of reach.
Franz Nemeth, Chief of the HOLMENKOL World Racing Team Alpine was on the spot and prepared the skis for some selected racers himself.
The finals turned out to be a huge success for Holmenkol since three new woldchampions won on nano-cfc. On top of that 7 medals in total were won on that preparation. All skis, up to 2,38m long, were prepared by Franz himself.
New World Champions on HOLMENKOL:
World Champion category Speed one Men: Simone Origone (ITA); 225 km/h
World Champion category Speed one Women: Dubouchet-Revol Karine (Fra); 213,523 km/h
World Champion category downhill women: Chausson Anne-Caroline (Fra); 182,833 -> HOLMENKOL comment: This category races with a normal racing suit which makes a difference of about 30 km/h on this track. Anne-Caroline just won the Olympics in the BMX category and rode this track before on a downhill bike!!
